New Frontiers In Tracking Consumer Exposure

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal by Stephanie Kang explores how one ad firm is trying to track *multimedia* consumer exposure to marketing.   Given that marketers have usually been able to measure the success of their ads one medium at a time, this presents a new frontier of possibility for integrated marketing communications.

The article, entitled "Ad Firm Tracks Consumers Across Media" is available here:

IMC Students Pitch In: The New River Project

Students in Professor Belch's IMC class are pitching in and putting their IMC skills to work in the real world:  the class is preparing a plan to address problems faced by the New River, which is considered one of the most polluted waterways in North America.

The New River flows up north from Mexicali, and so it receives waste and refuse from manufacturing plants operating in Mexico as well as runoff from farm industry chemicals and human waste from the Mexicali population.  The river is said to contain everything from uranium, arsenic, and mercury to PCB and a host of other biological contaminants.  Despite its dire situation, the river is competing with other issues for the attention and funds of the powers that be.

In a time of environmental concerns, the class is challenged with finding how to make the river cleanup a priority with the decision makers holding purse strings, both in Sacramento and Washington D.C.
